The Count and his family near Sousse, Tunisia ("Late one afternoon, just as the battalion was halting, Kenny and I drove into the courtyard of a large white homestead, in search of eggs. We were surprised to be confronted by so imposing a residence, and even further surprised to be hailed in English by a very dignified white man clad in a spotless tropical suit. He proved to be a Frenchman, the owner of the plantation we were camped in and he gave us a most affable welcome.") |
